PUDUCHERRY: The forest department and Puducherry pollution control committee (PPCC) in association with several non-government organizations and industrial units and with the participation of students, volunteers, and the public undertook a massive exercise to plant 75,000 saplings across the territory on a single day on Tuesday to commemorate the celebrations of the 75th Independence Day.
"The highlight of this exercise is that people, who plant the saplings will be responsible for their upkeep and maintenance to ensure that the saplings grow into massive trees and sustain for a long time. This will be the underlining point of success of the entire exercise," said deputy conservator of forests Vanjulavalli Sridhar.
